In the first event to kick off Montclair’s 150th anniversary celebration, the township is holding a contest for local middle-school students to design the logo for the municipality’s festivities next year.
The township plans to use the logo on materials related to the sesquicentennial celebration such as posters, T-shirts, letterheads and other items, according to Municipal Clerk Linda Wanat, who is part of the committee organizing events for the anniversary.
Wanat said she has been working with Nina DeRosa, executive assistant at the Township Board of Education, on the project.
Students at the Glenfield, Renaissance and Buzz Aldrin middle schools have until this Wednesday, Nov. 22, to submit their logs, according to Wanat. Elaine Molinaro, chair of the township’s Arts Advisory Committee, will be one of the judges of the contest, with two others yet to be chosen.
The Township Council will announce the winner of the logo competition at its Dec. 19 meeting, said Wanat, who described the contest as the kickoff of the 150th anniversary celebration.
Joyce Korotkin at Renaissance and Catherine Kondreck at Glenfield are coordinating the contest at the school level, according to school board president Laura Hertzog.
In addition to Wanat, the other members of 150th anniversary committee include Deputy Township Manager Brian Scantlebury; Deputy Mayor Robin Schlager; Katya Work, who is the municipality’s director of communications; and Pat Brechka, director of the Department of Recreation & Cultural Affairs.
