A train on the Montclair-Boonton Line hit a pedestrian Thursday near the Walnut Street Station, according to a New Jersey Transit spokesperson.

At approximately noon, the Montclair-Boonton Line train 6230 struck an adult male in the vicinity of North Fullerton Street, just west of the Walnut Street Station, the spokesperson said. The train had departed Montclair State University at 11:47 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive at Penn Station New York at 12:44 p.m.

The male pedestrian was taken to a hospital, the NJ Transit spokesperson said. The extent of injuries was not known as of Thursday afternoon. There were no injuries reported to the approximately 50 customers and crew on board.

Service in the area was briefly stopped but has since resumed.

New Jersey Transit Police are leading the investigation, according to Montclair Police acting Lt. Terence Turner.
