Emily Elizabeth (McElroy) Johnston of Schererville, Indiana, formerly of Montclair and Ramsey, died on Monday, Nov. 8, 2021. She was 90. 

Mrs. Johnston was born in 1931 to Janet (Findlay) and Harry McElroy in Montclair, where she spent her childhood. She was the second-oldest in her family, with six siblings: four brothers and two sisters. 

She wedded Thomas J. Johnston Jr. in 1960, and they were married for 53 years.  Before starting a family, she worked at Hardware Mutual Insurance Co. in Newark.  

Mrs. Johnston is survived by her daughter, Elaine (Johnston) McCracken; son, Thomas (Gayle) Johnston, and granddaughter, Alyssa Johnston. Surviving siblings are Janet (McElroy) Ripa of Livingston and William McElroy of Cedar Grove.

Mrs. Johnston was cremated and buried in Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, Indiana, next to her beloved husband Thomas. The family will have a memorial service to celebrate her life at a later date to be determined.
