Lloyd H. Johnson, also known as “Pops,” of Montclair, died on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2021. He was 73.

Mr. Johnson was born in 1948 in Westmoreland, Jamaica.  He immigrated to Montclair in 1978.

He was employed as a sanitation worker for Miele and Sons and Waste Management for 26 years, retiring in 2002. 

Mr. Johnson then continued to run the family business, Pops Grocery and Deli, in Irvington. The store is still open for business.

He is survived by his children, Hilrie Johnson, Lyncon Johnson, Sabrina Johnson, Nicola Wyatt and Ayana Johnson, and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Johnson was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy, in 2002. 

Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 12, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Greater Abyssinian Baptist Church, 88 Lyons Ave., Newark, with a funeral service Saturday, Nov. 13, at 10 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at Rosedale Cemetery in Montclair.
