Montclair High School seniors in the School of Visual and Performing Arts will present a five-show showcase, “A Night on the Red Carpet,” beginning Nov. 12.

This year’s musical revue features songs from musicals that were nominated for Tony Awards. It is being directed by Montclair High School alumnus Jason Smith, who 10 years ago was himself a performer in “Showcase,” as well as other musicals put on by SVPA, including “Hairspray,” “Rent” and “In the Heights.” Smith’s professional credits include the New York Public Theater and the “Rent” national tour.

Performances are scheduled for Nov. 12, 13, 19 and 20 at 7:30 p.m. and on Nov. 21 at 3 p.m. in the Little Theater, Montclair High School George Innes Annex, 141 Park St. A livestream will also be available.

Tickets will go on sale Nov. 1. To buy tickets, or for further information, including COVID-19 guidelines, visit

“Showcase” is an annual event that dates back to the 1980s. While it pays tribute to SVPA’s seniors, the cast includes students from all grades at the high school. About 90 students are involved in the production, including on-stage performers, a pit band and a full tech crew. “Showcase 2021” will represent a return to an indoor setting, the first since fall of 2019.
