Uptown Montclair will host its 45th annual Sidewalk Sale on Saturday, Sept. 18, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This year, for the second time in its history, part of Valley Road will be closed down to create space for shopping and walking.

More than 30 businesses will participate, offering their wares in an outdoor, market like atmosphere.

“This is a time to come to support small businesses who have been in Montclair for decades, such as Barbara Eclectic and Over the Moon as well as other longtime businesses such as Frederic’s Fine Jewelers and Montclair Stationery.  There are a few newcomers to the neighborhood, too, such as Beyond the Boogie and Dry Goods Refillery,” Wendy Lacey, owner of The General Store at Cornerstone and the sale organizer, said.

Community organizations and nonprofits will have information tables for visitors to learn more about their efforts.

SAVE MONTCLAIR LOCAL: We need your support, and we need it today. The journalism you value from Montclair Local, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, depends on the community's support — we exist because the old model of selling ads alone just can't fund journalism at the level we endeavor to provide. That's why you've seen other local newsrooms cut back staff or shut down entirely. Montclair Local was created because we believe that's unacceptable; the community's at its best when triumphs are celebrated, when power is held to account, when diverse lived experiences are shared — when the community is well-informed.

Montclair is seeking to raise $230,000 from donors, members and grantors between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31 to put us on firm footing for 2022, and continue supporting the hard work of our journalists into the new year and beyond. Visit MontclairLocal.news/donations to see how we're doing and make your contribution.

Montclair High School Project Graduation will have a table selling spirit wear to raise money for 2022 graduation celebrations. Other local nonprofits such as the Montclair Film Festival, Montclair Ambulance Unit and the Montclair Women’s Club will also have tables where people can learn about upcoming events and ways to support them throughout the year.

The Friends of the Bellevue Library will have a book sale selling books, CDs, DVDs, for $1 and under.

“There will be lots of options to eat and drink throughout the day,” Lacey said.

Also new to the block is Empire Nutrition, offering smoothies and bowls and other healthy options.

The Little Daisy Bake Shop, which this year is celebrating 10 years in Montclair, will have a stand set up in front of the bakery offering sweet treats and nut- and peanut-free ice cream.

Music will be provided by Montclair Diner, with local favorites MHS Passing Notes and Joe Colwell playing tunes.

“Colwell has a John Mayer-esque style that has attracted crowds at The General Store at Cornerstone on many occasions, and this will be no exception,” Lacey said.

There is no rain date, so Lacey and the shop owners are keeping their fingers crossed for a bright and sunny day.

Parking will be available in the lots behind Valley Road and off Bellevue Avenue, as well as along the street on Lorraine and North Mountain avenues.

Valley Road will be closed between Lorraine and Bellevue avenues.
