Montclair’s sustainability officer, Gray Russell, retired June 30. (FILE PHOTO)

Great article about the work and retirement of Gray Russell in the June 10 edition of Montclair Local. I have appreciated many aspects of his work for decades. Energy, water, farmers market the list goes on. Thank you, Gray, and may you enjoy your retirement!

It was great to see the headline “BOE seeks better relationship with teachers union” in the same issue, and also to see that Eric Scherzer is a member of the Montclair Board of Education and that he will lead a committee meant to improve relationships between the school district and the Montclair Education Association.

The formation of the committee is positive and I believe that Eric Scherzer can have a positive impact there. Eric and I both worked for labor unions, and were active in the Industrial Union Council in New Jersey.
