A samurai sword, a golden mirror, a twin-size mattress and more were stolen from a Summit Avenue residence over the past several months, police said.

On June 3, Montclair residents reported that several items had gone missing from their home at various points over the past several months, according to police.

The missing items also included four crystal wedding glasses, two Cuisinart hand mixers and various bedding items.

Thefts




Saturday, June 5 — Officers responded to the area of Club Street and Valley Road after a Montclair resident reported observing four males entering his vehicle, which was parked in his driveway. The officers located four males matching the description given by the resident, leaving the scene. Upon observing the officers, the males fled on foot in different directions.

Two 17-year-old juvenile males from Newark were apprehended on Valley Road. A 15-year-old and a 17-year-old juvenile male from Newark were located hiding behind a residence on Bellaire Drive. All of those juveniles were charged with obstruction of justice and resisting arrest. The 15-year-old male was found to be in possession of proceeds belonging to a resident of Valley Road as well. Officers checked with that resident, who determined his vehicle had also been entered and items were removed. This 15-year-old was additionally charged with receiving stolen property.

One of the 17-year-old males was found to be in possession of a key to a Mazda. It was later determined that this key belonged to the vehicle reported stolen from Brookfield Road earlier in the day. That 17-year-old juvenile was additionally charged with receiving stolen property. All the juveniles were released to guardians.

Saturday, June 5 — A 2021 Grey Mazda CX9 was reported stolen from a resident’s driveway on Brookfield Road during the overnight hours. The vehicle was  left unlocked with the keys inside. It was recovered later the same day, parked and unoccupied, in Newark.

Saturday, June 5 — A woman reported that she parked her vehicle on Gates Avenue with her rear windows down. When she returned to it, she discovered her glove box was open and some documents were missing.

Monday, June 7 — A driver for a ride share service reported that he picked up a passenger on Maple Avenue and drove him to Elmwood Avenue in East Orange. After the customer exited the vehicle, the driver began receiving notifications that his credit cards were being used. He then discovered his wallet missing.

Contempt of court

Saturday, June 5 — A 24-year-old Orange man was charged with contempt of court after officers discovered open warrants out of Bloomfield during a motor vehicle stop on Gordonhurst Avenue.
