Antoinette Marie Dello Russo, a lifelong Montclair resident, died on Dec. 31, 2020, surrounded by her family. She was 89.
Mrs. Dello Russo, fondly known as Ann, Mom, Grammy or G.G., was born in 1931 in Montclair to Lena and Frank Alvaro. She was the youngest of six siblings; her brothers and sisters were Nicholas, Edward, Joseph, Margaret and Mildred.
She attended the Montclair public schools and was a graduate of Montclair High School.
On Nov. 2, 1958, she married another lifelong Montclair resident, John Nicholas Dello Russo, a young soldier just home from the Korean War. Their union was blessed with two daughters and a son.
Mrs. Dello Russo’s elder daughter, Lisa Drukker, was born the day before her third wedding anniversary. Three years later she gave birth to her son, John J. Dello Russo, and four years later to her youngest daughter, Francine Dello Russo.
Mrs. Dello Russo was a telephone operator at New Jersey Bell, now Verizon, for over 35 years. She retired to care for her first grandchild, Marissa, daughter to Lisa and son-in-law Christopher. Four years later Marissa’s sister Jessica was born.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Marissa and Jessica have many happy memories of their grandmother, who was much like another mother to them.
Mrs. Dello Russo shared her love of Italian cooking, baking, gardening, drawing and sewing, as well as her affinity for movie mysteries, with her grandchildren.
She collected Precious Moments items, porcelain dolls and Beanie Babies. She was well known for her family gatherings and barbecues.
She is survived by her husband, John Dello Russo; her three children, Francine Dello Russo, John J. Dello Russo and Lisa Drukker (Christopher); granddaughter Jessica Drukker (fiance Matthew Dery); granddaughter Marissa McYeng (Richard); great-granddaughters Isabell, Gabriell, Treselle and Llielah, and many nieces and nephews.
A virtual memorial service will be held to honor her life on Jan. 9.
