William E. “Bill” Johns Jr., a lifelong Montclair resident, died on Nov. 13, 2020, in Kindred Hospital, Dover, after an illness lasting several months. He was 56.

Mr. Johns, the son of the late William E. Johns Sr. and the late Vivian Yvonne Brandon Johns, was born in Glen Ridge on July 26, 1964.

After graduating from Montclair High School in 1983 he attended Curry College in Massachusetts, where he earned a BA in communication studies.  He was an intercollegiate athlete and played football and lacrosse all four years at Curry. He loved sports and continued to play in club leagues and teams after college.

Mr. Johns worked as a sales merchandiser for the Hershey Co. for many years, and was recognized as a top salesperson several times throughout his career with the company.

After leaving Hershey due to the company’s restructuring, he worked a variety of jobs for a number of years.  He recently started to focus on his childhood passion for art and photography and was looking forward to future business ventures.

He was a true inspiration as he pursued these interests, while also managing chronic health issues due to diabetes. No matter what happened in life, he kept a positive attitude and moved forward. He was always willing to help friends and family who needed assistance.

Mr. Johns loved to travel and was always planning his next adventure. Those who had the pleasure of knowing him will remember him as the guy who loved a good party and enjoyed spending time with friends and family.

He is survived by his brother, Jeffrey D. Johns; sister-in-law, Theresa A. Johns;  nephew, Jeffrey D. Johns Jr.; two nieces, Vanessa V. Johns and Tanisha C. Clark of Florida; two aunts, Suluki Id-Deen of Florida and Juanita Wilson of North Carolina, and a host of cousins and other beloved relatives and friends.

He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.  He left an everlasting impression with everyone he met.
