Louise M. Haynes, lovingly referred to as “Weezie,” passed away peacefully on Aug. 10, 2020, surrounded by those who loved her at her home in The Chelsea in Fanwood. She was 97.

Mrs. Haynes, who formerly owned a business in Montclair, was born on July 9, 1923, in Orange to William and Elizabeth Zickler. She was a graduate of Neptune High School and earned a bachelor’s degree at Montclair State University.

Mrs. Haynes moved to the West Coast, where she would meet her husband, Robert G. Haynes. Mr. Haynes was the love of her life, and they stayed mutually devoted for 65 years until his passing in 2011. Together they worked with Harper Rowe Publishing, and traveled around the country.

They settled in New Jersey and owned and operated Carriage House Displays, a silk-screen company in Newark that specialized in visual merchandising. She then opened Four Seasons Carriage House Displays in Montclair. Mrs. Haynes was extremely creative and enjoyed arranging beautiful displays for all kinds of occasions.

She was beloved by many, and although she and her husband had no children of their own, they “adopted” their chosen children (both human and fur babies), to whom there would be a lifelong mutual devotion.

In addition to her “adoptees” Mrs. Haynes is survived by her sister Dottie and her children, all of whom reside on the West Coast.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Ave., Fanwood,  from 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Home Free Animal Rescue in Red Bank (www.homefreeanimalrescue.com).
