Certified Reiki practitioner Claudia Sherwood of Montclair gives about three dozen Aging In Montclair members a demonstration on one of the Eastern medicine practices gaining acceptance in the west, in the Montclair Salvation Army Citadel cafe, Saturday, Nov. 30. Sherwood describes Reiki as, “a Japanese healing touch practice based on the notion that human hands can redirect one’s ‘life force energy,’ creating deep relaxation, speeding healing and reducing pain. In a Reiki session, the patient remains fully clothed while the practitioner’s hands pass over or lightly touch specific areas of the head, limbs, and torso using different hand shapes.”
