Terry Last, formerly of Montclair, died in her Verona home in the company of family on Oct. 8.
Born in Sea Gate, Brooklyn in 1933, Mrs. Last met her husband Jerry while they were attending Brooklyn College. In 1965, they moved to Montclair, where they raised their children, Robert, Linda and David. Mrs. Last studied at Montclair State College and earned a master’s degree in women’s studies.
In retirement, Mrs. Last and her husband Jerry, enjoyed practicing pottery at Greenwich House in Greenwich Village and travelled as far as Japan to study the art. They were active members of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Montclair.
Mrs. Last moved from Montclair to Verona in 2004. She remained active in the arts and began taking classes and volunteering at the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach during winters in Florida. As a member of the Montclair League of Women Voters, Mrs. Last was a strong supporter of women’s rights, and a regular contributor to Emily’s List, an organization devoted to helping women achieve political office. She created endowments for a Scholarship Fund at Montclair State University as well as the Community Education Program at the Maryland Institute College of Arts.
She was predeceased by her husband Jerry.
Mrs. Last is survived by her son Robert and his wife Jill Canny of Michigan, her daughter Linda and her husband Steven Bloom of Manhattan, and her son David and his wife Maria McGarry of Montclair, as well as eight grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15 at the Unitarian
Universalist Congregation at Montclair, 67 Church St., Montclair.
