BURGLARY/THEFT

Tuesday, July 2—Two unlocked vehicles were entered during the early morning hours on Gordonhurst Avenue. A laptop worth approximately $2000 was removed from one of the vehicles.
Tuesday, July 2—An unlocked vehicle was entered while parked in the driveway on Fairmont Avenue. The vehicle was rummaged through but nothing reported missing.
Wednesday, July 3—Two unlocked vehicles were entered in the early morning hours on Beverly Road. Both vehicles were rummaged through and a set of headphones were stolen from one vehicle.
Wednesday, July 3—An unlocked vehicle was entered while parked in the driveway on Beverly Road. It is unknown if any items were taken.
Wednesday, July 3—An unlocked vehicle was entered during the early morning hours on Beverly Road. A make-up bag was removed and recovered on the street later in the day.

Wednesday, July 3—A gym bag containing miscellaneous items were removed from an unlocked vehicle on Midland Avenue. The bag was located down the street.
Friday, July 5—A resident reported that approximately $40,000 in cash was stolen from a locked safe inside of his apartment. This incident is under investigation.
Sunday, July 7—An unlocked shed was entered in the rear of a Midland Avenue residence. The suspect removed a Cypress DX Large framed yellow/ black bicycle. 

ARRESTS

Wednesday, July 3—A 62-year-old male from Upper Darby, Pa. was arrested for an open warrant out of Gloucester City.
Friday, July 5—A 26-year-old male from New York, N.Y. was arrested on Upper Mountain Avenue and charged with driving while intoxicated.
Sunday, July 7—A 31-year-old Montclair male was arrested on Bloomfield Avenue and charged with driving while intoxicated.
Monday, July 8—A 22-year-old Montclair male was arrested on Bloomfield Avenue for an open warrant out of the Essex County Sheriff’s Department.

VANDALISM

Tuesday, July 2—A resident reported that her vehicle was vandalized while parked on Baldwin Street. Multiple scratch marks were located down the drivers side.
Saturday, July 6—A resident reported her vehicle damaged while parked in front of her home on Hilltop Place.

 

The Montclair Police Department reminds all residents to lock their vehicles while unattended and advises against storing valuables in the passenger compartment of vehicles. There has been an increase in thefts from vehicles across the township. In almost every reported incident, the vehicle targeted had been left unlocked. Also, never store a key or remote key fob inside your vehicle. Contact the police department immediately should you observe anything unusual at 973-744-1234.
