Nutley Little Theatre’s final production of its 84th season, “[title of show]”, with music and lyrics by Jeff Bowen and book by Hunter Bell, runs through June 29. Cast members include Tim White of Montclair.
“[title of show],” a musical that chronicles its own journey from inception to opening night on Broadway, received a 2009 Tony Nomination for Best Book of a Musical.
Performance dates are June 27, 28 & 29 at 8 p.m. and June 29 at 2 p.m.
The musical is directed by Ron Mulligan of Parsippany, with musical direction by Marsha Schreier of Verona and choreography by Crystal Ann Bennett of Bloomfield, who also performs in the show. Other cast members include Jessica Katz of Little Falls, Ray Sentina of Belleville, and Tim White of Montclair.
“‘[title of show],'” writes NLT, “is an original musical that chronicles its own journey from inception to opening night on Broadway. At its heart, this show is about four friends: how friendships are tested and changed when life happens, when new opportunities are revealed. It’s about risk and learning to be true to yourself and to your friends… your chosen family.”
It contains adult language and subject matter and is intended for mature audiences.
The one-act musical depicts the story of its own creation in the New York Musical Theatre Festival, where it premeired in 2004. It ran off-Broadway in 2006, before opening on Broadway in 2008. The off-Broadway run of the show garnered Obie Awar for writers/stars Bowen and Bell, and director director Michael Berresse.
