A 15-year-old boy was struck and injured by a train just after midnight Wednesday, May 29, in Upper Montclair.

NJ Transit spokesperson Lisa Torbic said the incident happened at 12:30 a.m. at the Jerome Place grade crossing, which is halfway between the Upper Montclair and Mountain Avenue train stations.

The boy was taken to an area hospital with unspecified injuries.

The train, Montclair-Boonton line train 6299, had departed Penn Station in New York at 11:42 p.m. and was due to arrive at Montclair State University at 12:33 a.m.

It was the last train of the day, Torbic said, so service on the Montclair-Boonton Line was not affected. The two passengers and the crew aboard the train were not injured.

The incident marks the second time a person was struck by a train in Montclair this month. A 53-year-old man was struck and killed by a train near the Watchung Avenue Train Station on May 13.

The incident is under investigation by NJ Transit police at this time.
