The Muslim holiday of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, begins at sundown on Sunday, May 5, and continues through the evening of Tuesday, June 4. During the month, which is considered the holiest month of the year, Muslims fast from prewdawn until sunset, as a way to practice discipline and compassion for those less fortunate. Muslims also spend more time during this month praying and reading the Qur’an. At Montclair’s Masjid Wadud, 222 Bloomfiled Ave., there will be a sermon this Friday, May 3, 1 p.m., on “Proper Relations with Non-Muslims.” Break fasts will be held on Saturdays, 8:15 p.m.
