George P. Rowan, 78, died on April 4, 2018, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Rowan was lifelong resident of Montclair. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1960, most notably with the “Old Guard” 3rd Infantry Division in Washington, D.C. He returned to Montclair to serve residents as a firefighter for 34 years, retiring with the rank of captain. He was a long time member of Montclair FMBA Local 20, West Orange Elks 1590, The West Orange Anglers, and The Old Guard Association.
He loved spending time with his family, Yankee baseball, painting and fishing.
Mr. Rowan is survived by his sons, Robert G. (Cyndee) of Montclair and Thomas G. (Mary) of Tampa, Florida’ his former wife, Jacqueline of Woodland Park; his brother Thomas “Tucker” (Treena) of Houston, Texas; and his grandchildren, Robert Jr., Emily, Maggie and George. He is predeceased by his parents Thomas and Mary Rowan and his sister Marilyn.
A mass of Christian burial will be offered on Tuesday, April 10, at 10 a.m. at Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Church of the Immaculate Conception, 30 North Fullerton Ave. Interment will be at Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Visitation is Monday, April 9, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Hugh M. Moriarty Funeral Home, 76 Park St., Montclair.
