The survival of the human species is very important to me. The president’s statement about nuclear weapons — “If we have them, why not use them?” — is terrifying. The latest bombs could kill everyone in the New York-Washington corridor in one blow. The lethal fumes would kill many more, and if we and the North Koreans engaged in serious nuclear war, all humans would soon be at risk, the lucky ones dying immediately and the others suffering an agonizing death. The proposed “small” bombs would be like those that bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
We need to do everything possible to prevent nuclear war.
Less alarming but very bad is drilling off the Atlantic coast; recently President Donald Trump said it will now be allowed. This immediately jeopardizes New Jersey’s economy and the pleasure of visiting the Shore. Beyond that, it threatens the life of the plants and animals living there and, eventually ours, too.
I hope others will join me in telling their federal senators and representative that we need to curb our president’s lethal impulsiveness. Cutting the nuclear and war budget could free money for compassionate uses and/or cutting the national debt.
