With Governor-Elect Phil Murphy by his side, Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo Jr. kicked off his re-election campaign for a fifth term Monday.
DiVincenzo announced his plans during a press conference at Essex County Veterans Memorial Park in Newark, where he was surrounded by officials from the county and state who were there to endorse him.
He was accompanied by not only Murphy but Lt. Governor-Elect Sheila Oliver, State Senate President Steve Sweeney and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka. DiVincenzo also has the endorsement of U.S. Senators Robert Menendez and Cory Booker, and Essex County Democratic Committee Chairman Leroy Jones.
“Look at the diversity of the people who are here today the diversity of the people Joe surrounds himself with every day,” Murphy said in a prepared statement. “This is a credit for what you have done.”
Township native son Brendan Gill, who is president of the Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders and chair of the Montclair Democratic Committee, also weighed in.
“It is an honor to support your re-election,” Gill said in a prepared statement. “Joe, you have improved the fiscal health of Essex County, are committed to open space and the work that is accomplished on a daily basis is a credit to your leadership.”
