The French Institute Alliance Française is holding two days of Bastille Day events in Montclair. On Saturday, July 8, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., FIAF will open its Montclair French Library at its branch at 7 North Willow St., Suite 7. Children are invited to create their own “lampion du 14 juillet” (Bastille Day lantern) and attend a French book fair.

The main event for adults will be held on Bastille Day, July 14, at Van Vleck House & Gardens, 21 Van Vleck St. There will be a VIP hour from 6 to 7 p.m., with a garden party from 7 to 10, featuring music from Marine Futin and her jazz band, and a “buffet campagnard” (French country buffet) including desserts from Le Petit Parisien, bread from Montclair Bread Company, and French wine.

A silent art auction will benefit FIAF Montclair’s scholarship fund, and a prize drawing included with the price of admission offers a chance to win a trip for two to Paris and other prizes.

SAVE MONTCLAIR LOCAL: We need your support, and we need it today. The journalism you value from Montclair Local, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, depends on the community's support — we exist because the old model of selling ads alone just can't fund journalism at the level we endeavor to provide. That's why you've seen other local newsrooms cut back staff or shut down entirely. Montclair Local was created because we believe that's unacceptable; the community's at its best when triumphs are celebrated, when power is held to account, when diverse lived experiences are shared — when the community is well-informed.

Montclair is seeking to raise $230,000 from donors, members and grantors between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31 to put us on firm footing for 2022, and continue supporting the hard work of our journalists into the new year and beyond. Visit to see how we're doing and make your contribution.
