Ivy Van Pittman, formerly of Montclair, and Melvin Thomas Outen, formerly of Hempstead, New York, were married on May 6 at the Valley Regency in Clifton.
The bride is the daughter of Maxine Pittman of Montclair and Winton Pittman of Buffalo. The groom is the son of the late William and Eva Outen of Hempstead.
The wedding was officiated by the Rev. Walter L. Parrish III of Northside Baptist Church, Baltimore. The bride was escorted by her cousin John Onque Sr.
Bridesmaids included Belinda Smith of Fort Washington, Maryland; Mary-Jane Byrd of Rockaway, and CoCo Outen of Clovis, New Mexico.
Groomsmen were Clifton Outen of Milford, Delaware; Kerry Byrd of Rockaway and Vincent Lewis of Montclair.
Ring presenters were Mecadon McCune of Newark and Jayden Byrd of Rockaway. Flower girls were Zuri and Ava McCune of Newark.
The musical selection, “Depuis le Jour (Since That Fair Day),” was sung by Christine McCune, accompanied by Brandon McCune.
The bride is an alumna of Tuskegee University. The groom retired from the United States Army in 2001.
The couple met at Tuskegee University in 1977. Their paths reconnected in 2010 and they were engaged in 2016 in Aruba. The newlyweds have split residences in Illinois and Hawaii.
