The MKA Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that Matthew Bach will be joining the MKA coaching staff in the 2017-2018 school year as our new Varsity Cross Country Coach, Varsity Indoor Track Coach and Varsity Track and Field Coach. Coach Bach will be replacing MKA coaching legend, and world renowned marathon runner Tom Fleming, who passed away suddenly this past April. Coach Bach (a former runner at Penn State University and graduate of Western Connecticut State University) is currently a private triathlon and running coach, and is a professional elite triathlete competing in races and Ironman’s across the county. Most recently, he won the Maryland Ironman and finished 72nd at the Ironman World Championships. Coach Bach is also the star of a podcast series on Endurance Planet called “So You Wanna Go Pro?”which receives over 15,000 downloads per episode, and documents his journey to race triathlon’s professionally. Coach Back is currently a Portfolio Manager/Trader for Ophir Partners LLC in New York City. Coach Bach's excitement and vision for the future of MKA Cross County and Track and Field teams make him an outstanding addition to the MKA community. Under his leadership, the long and successful tradition of MKA Cross Country and Track and Field will continue to flourish and excel. In addition, I would like to thank Alden Basmajian for everything he has done as our "Interim Head Coach" over the last few weeks. Coach Basmajian has been an integral part of the coaching staff over the last 8 years and will be sorely missed as he and his family move to Virginia this summer.
