Montclair Mayor Robert Jackson has reappointed Anne Mernin and Jessica DeKoninck to the Township Board of Education.
“I believe that their experience and perspectives will be invaluable in the search for the next superintendent,” Jackson said in a letter dated Saturday to Board Interim Business Manager Steve DiGeronimo.
In the letter the mayor recognized that, while there have been occasional “dust-ups” among board members, DeKoninck and Mernin were “integrally involved in the selection of two outstanding interim leaders for our schools, i.e. Mr. Bolandi and Dr. Pinsak.”
“I feel that this board has made some superior personnel decisions and the most important decision to be made in the near future is our new superintendent,” Jackson said. “I want to ‘keep the gang together’ for this crucial call. I am confident that Anne and Jessica, working collaboratively with the other five members, will contribute to making another outstanding choice.”
The mayor said he regretted that a permanent school board president wasn’t in place yet and noted, “a number of well-meaning residents advised me to inject some new blood at this time.”
DeKoninck has served on the board since 2014 and is the current president. Mernin, who is the current vice president, has served since 2013.
