montclair investors cup

Montclair High School’s Mounties football team claimed the Investors Bank Cup last year, after defeating Bloomfield Bengals 21-16 on Thanksgiving Day.

Update: Due to inclement weather and the potential for icing around the MHS campus and Athletic Facilities, the Thanksgiving Day Football game, Montclair vs. Bloomfield, has been postponed until Friday, November 28, 2014 at 1:00 PM.

It’s a local Thanksgiving tradition — the Bengals and the Mounties football squads have clashed on Thanksgiving Day for decades, making this rivalry game among the oldest in the Garden State.

This is year is the fourth in a row that the two varsity football teams are competing for the Investors Bank Cup. The Most Valuable Player of the game from each team will receive a $500 scholarship presented by Investors Bank CEO Kevin Cummings and Chief Retail Officer Paul Kalamaras (Cummings gets to toss the coin before the opening kickoff).

“Thanksgiving Day football games were once held across New Jersey, and now the Mounties and Bengals are among the few teams that are continuing this great legacy,” said Montclair’s Football Coach John Fiore. “Our fans enjoy the game, and this tradition runs deep in the football program.”

In talking about this year’s game, Bloomfield Athletic Director Steve Jenkins said, ‘We know that the Mounties are a strong team. The Bengal’s Coach Mike Carter and his players are ready to provide our opponents with plenty of hard-nosed action.”

The game will be played at Woodman Field at 101 Essex Avenue in Montclair, and the starting time is 10:30 AM. Tickets, which are available at the field, cost $4 for adults and $2 for students and seniors.

Fans will get rally towels from the staff from Investors’ branches in Bloomfield and Montclair, as well as padded seat cushions while supplies last.
