Ruby J. Pierson, 96, of Montclair, died on Oct. 14, surrounded by family.

Services were held on Monday, Oct. 23, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Montclair.

Mrs. Pierson served in the Army during World War II. She retired from HUD after 43 years.

She served as a deacon at Trinity Presbyterian Church. She was also a charter member of the NAACP and the Glenfield Neighborhood Alumni Association, where she was active in raising money for scholarships for children.

Mrs. Pierson was predeceased by her husband Quinton E Pierson.

She is survived by her sons, Quinton E. Pierson III (Sherri), and Richard M. Pierson; five grandchildren, Summer T., Quinton R., Kenyatta, Amie D., and Lamar A.; one great-grandchild, Shamore (Chopper) Mitchell; her nephews, James Woods (JoAnn) and Dennis; her nieces Julia Woods and Yasmin Johnson; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Pierson was entombed at St. Stephen’s Chapel, Millburn.

Arrangements were by Martin’s Home for Service, 48 Elm St., Montclair.
