A Montclair pedestrian had to be taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after being struck by an ambulance at the intersection of Grove and Walnut streets.
Police Lt. David O’Dowd said Wednesday that the 18-year-old man was crossing Grove Street in the crosswalk when a paratransit ambulance struck him. The ambulance had been traveling eastbound on Walnut Street and had started to make a left turn onto Grove.
O’Dowd said that the pedestrian complained of pain and had lacerations on his hands and knees, and that he was taken to Mountainside Hospital. The driver of the paratransit ambulance was identified only as a 54-year-old North Haledon man.
The incident is under investigation.
