Peak Performances presents the American premiere of Ashley Fure’s “The Force of Things: An Opera for Objects,” Oct. 6 through Oct. 8 at Alexander Kasser Theater at MSU, as part of its 2017-18 season, which consists entirely of works by women.

Created in collaboration with Fure’s brother, the architect Adam Fure, and performed by International Contemporary Ensemble, the work “wrestles with the animate vitality of matter and the haunting thrust of ecological anxiety around us,” according to a release. The audience sits beneath a canopy of familiar and exotic objects while the performers —including percussionists Dustin Donahue, Ross Karre and Levy Lorenzo, bassoonist Rebekah Heller and saxophonist Ryan Muncy — spur them into action. Singers Lucy Dhegrae and Alice Teyssier shout and whisper warnings.
