Reaching double digits is a big milestone for a kid.
The Geyer Family Branch of the YMCA of Montclair, which offers programs for children ages 6 months to 6 years, is reaching double digits this year, and celebrating its 10th birthday with a yearlong celebration.
The organization kicked off the celebration with a FamilyFest at Crane Park on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 23.
The Geyer Family Branch, at 159 Glenridge Ave., offers programs and classes for children ages 6 months to 6 years and their families.
During the past 10 years, many children have learned how to swim in the pool, used their creativity in the art studio, developed their cooking skills, fine-tuned their coordination and motor skills in the gym and dance studio and attended one of the many summer camps open to children up to the age of 12.
In Crane Park, birthday activities included face painting, pin the tail on the donkey, limbo dancing and music. Commemorative colorful paper candles were given out to each child to take across the street from Crane Park to the
Community Room, where they decorated their own cupcakes and received a special blue birthday T-shirt with a cake on the front and the slogan “Happy Birthday Geyer!”
The paper candles with all of the children’s names on them will be put up on the main floor lobby wall for members and the community to view.
Mary Clark, lead teacher at Geyer said, “We embrace the creativity and ingenuity of all the people here. It’s the best place to shine, both individually and in a group.”
Families are always welcome to arrange a tour of the Family Branch.
