CLARK SCOTT CARMICHAEL

Montclair actor Clark Scott Carmichael stars in “Every Brilliant Thing,” a one-man show by Duncan Macmillan, with Jonny Donahoe, at Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre in Summit, from Thursday, Sept. 21, through Sunday, Oct. 8.

The show is interactive and somewhat improvisational, using the audience to “play the other roles” in the story of a child, growing into a man, trying to cheer up a suicidal mother. Among the things that would make anyone happy: Kung Fu movies, and, according to the website show description, “laughing so hard you shoot milk out your nose.”

Because of the interactive nature of the show, only 50 seats per night will be sold. Performed in the round, “Every Brilliant Thing” debuted in London and traveled to Off-Broadway in 2016. This is its New Jersey premiere. Described by the producers as “sincere but not sentimental,” the show deals with mental illness and its impact on a family, using humor and theatricality.

Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre is at the Oaks Center, 120 Morris Ave., Summit. For more information visit dreamcatcherrep.org, or call 908-514-0654.
