CLARK CARMICHAEL

Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre, in residence in the Oakes Center in Summit, is presenting “Monologues at MONDO” on Thursdays from July 5-26 at 8 p.m. MONDO is a brownstone performance space in downtown Summit, 426 Springfield Ave., that presents different arts and culture programs.

Dreamcatcher writes, “In the summer of 2014, DRT presented a series of solo works as readings at MONDO, the cultural gathering place in downtown Summit. The series was received with such enthusiasm, that since then we return to MONDO every summer with our Monologues@MONDO series.”

On Thursday, July 5, 8 p.m., Montclair’s Clark Carmichael will perform “The Gun Show” by E.M. Lewis. In it, Lewis takes aim at her own relationship with firearms. Clark Carmichael will share Lewis’s unique perspective and true stories about America’s most dangerous pastime as if they were his own.

The show, Dreamcatcher writes, “leaps neither left nor right.” Dreamcatcher states that “The Gun Show” jumps into the middle of the gun control debate, and asks “Can we have a conversation about this?”

Other monologues in the series include “We’re Gonna Die,” by Young Jean Lee, on Thursday, July 12; described as a “life-affirming show about the one thing we all have in common: we’re gonna die;”

“Pretty Fire” by Charlayne Woodard, on Thursday, July 19; which weaves together the stories of two sisters in Albany and of Ku Klux Klan Riders in Georgia; featuring Nicole Callender. Charles Isherwood of The New York Times described the play as “a combination of pop concert and autobiographical lament for the human condition.” Laura Ekstrand, artistic director of Dreamcatcher, performs.

and “The Absolute Brightness of Leonard Pelkey” by James Lecesne; in which one actor portrays many characters in a small Jersey Shore town after a 14-year-old boy goes missing, on Thursday, July 26. Jason Szamreta will play all the roles.
